Statistics for hail: n=53 hailstones
avg max diameter: 4.58 mm
std deviation: 1.90 mm
smallest 2.1 mm
Largest: 11.1 mm
Some smaller hail probably melted before I could measure it.
Note: a single large hailstone fell 2 minutes before the hailstorm began and 1 minute after the rain began. It was 41 x 33 mm. It was not included in the statistical calculations.
(These are some great calculations done: Counting the number of indentations on the pad seemed to indicate far more than 52 strikes from hail. Given that it is unlikely to all be attributable to residual indentations, I would guess that much of the smallest hail did melt before analysis. P.G.) |
