The rain was so heavy that I did not get out to search for the hailstones, so this report is based entirely on my hearing (no pad out). My patio roof is acrylic and hail makes a particular sound that is not like any kind of rain. There were not a lot of them, with few hits at first and then more, but it never got to an intensity that made my adrenaline really crank up, as it does when I am worried and feeling helpless about my garden. By the sound, and what little I could see from my door, they were probably pea-sized or smaller. From experience, there will be mild damage to leaves. Then the rain got very heavy, with close thunder and lightning. What an unusual storm for close to 2 in the morning! That's why I thought it was worth reporting. |
