| Notes: |
Hail observed on horseback and sheltering under a tree about 1 mile SW of rain gauge. Hail pad is from rain gauge site. I learned from this experience that soft hail stones that make a broad depression (up to a half inch diameter for stones that are 1/4" to 3/8" in diameter) containing 10 to 50 upward facing bumps less than 1mm in diameter. Modification made on 9/1/08: Since you don't map points if I check "No" to question regarding whether "Report was taken at registered location?", I am modififying report to say "Yes" because the hail pad was at its normal location beside the rain gauge. There may be a time lag of 5 minutes or so for the onset time at the hail pad, because onset of hail was observed 1 mile SW of the hail pad. John Cady. Added count. CK |
