Obs were NOT at my station, where NO hail and only very light rain fell. I was driving from downtown Prescott, east along Gurley St. to the Prescott Gateway Mall. At ~1:45pm, I encountered 1/4" hail at the Hwy 69/89 junction. The hail (and rain) continued and got heavier as I drove nearly 3 miles to the Mall, in very slow traffic. At the Mall, the hvy rains with 1/4" hail continued for 15+ mins while I was in a store shopping. I delayed leaving the store until there was a lull in the hail and rain. Once in my car, I realized the parking lot was covered with hail. While driving out of the Mall parking area, I saw that the hail was nearly an inch deep on raised planter bed areas, and the hail was clogging drains and causing backup of flooding waters. I stopped to take a video and photos. I saw "2:18" on the clock on my dashboard. So that tells me the hail storm lasted a good half an hour. Two CoCoRaHS stations just south of the Mall reported 1.16" (YV-139) and 0.94" (YV-91) of precip from this storm. |
