Notes
Most of the measured precipitation is from rain. The rainfall was a morning and afternoon long slow and sometimes sporadic drizzle. Good for ground absorption especially in south facing areas that have experienced significant drying over the last few days. Snow from previous storm melted. Remaining snow from February storm is now nearly all gone except for isolated patches in shady north facing areas that receive no daytime sun and are shaded by large pine trees. The remaining snow is essentially glacier-like ice that is compressed. Difficult to extract a meaningful sample to melt. Ground is saturated in north facing locations but south facing is rapidly drying. Interesting to look into sprinkler control valve boxes near rain gauge. One in a south facing yard location is dry which is unusual for early March. The box located in a north facing location is only 50 percent full; normally this time of year the in-the-ground box structure would be filled to the top. Temperature at time of reading is 36 degrees F with slight breeze from the NW. Completely clear skies. Bird bath is ice free. Birds are happy with clear water and now fresh sunflower seeds in the feeder.
