Daily Precipitation Report
Station Number: NC-JH-20 Station Name: Clayton 4.6 ESE
Data Explorer
Observation Date 9/6/2026 7:00 AM
Submitted 9/06/2026 10:56 AM
Gauge Catch
0.42 in.
Notes
Received hail up to 1.75" in size, though 1.5" was more common for the big ones. Many of the stones were flat and looked very similar to sliced kiwi fruit, complete with the central "eye". No damage noted to roofs, etc, and there was minimum stripping of foliage. (The flat shape of the stones prevented them from being as massive as they would have been if they had been more spherical.) Unfortunately, both the primary and backup gauge had their funnels on, and no stones managed to stay in a funnel, so the actual precip amount could be significantly higher than the reported catch.
