Notes
The rain last night changed to snow about 5:30 PM. and was coming down fairly heavy. It quickly started accumulating. The snowflake size had been large for a bit but then they became ridiculous in size. The size of our rain gauge, the diameter, was at least as large as they got. I came out of the garage, and the flood light hadn't come on yet, I was in awe of the huge white balls in the air, easily visible, falling to the ground. I had read something about this a few years back. Something with light winds, the upslope, and the right temperature, the stickiness and flake size with the wind and lift, upslope, and the rate the snow is falling. It lifts and they stick together and bunches and sometimes they get rolled. It was like hailing snow. The snow then returned to heavy wet flakes for a short but then became smaller and wetter, rain was starting to mix in. By 5:45 PM the temperature had dropped to 32 degrees. When it started to mix in rain, I saw 33 degrees. In the temps fluctuations the reading was 32.6 degrees. It was at 7:15 PM the rose, and slowly kept rising to 35 then 36 degrees the rest of the night. It continued with rain and snow until 1:30 AM. The ground and decks had almost solid snow with at least almost a quarter inch of ice on top packing it all down. Nice to walk on. Yesterday's high temperature was 52 degrees. The low temperature this morning was 35 degrees. The snow/ice measurement was close to 0.75 inches of snow/ice.
