Eight inches of lake-effect snow fell in a “spectacular blizzard” and greatly impeded the progress of the unprotected drivers and their primitive vehicles. Only two of six contestants finished with one unfortunate soul crashing into a sleigh. Winner completed the race in ten hours, 23 minutes.
