Notes
Yesterday morning, Doppler radar indicated a large area of moderate to heavy rain over the Raton Mesa area headed north. Precipitation began as very light rain at 1:37pm. The following are hourly running rain totals for this event: 2:37pm 0.03", 3:37pm 0.06", 4:37pm 0.25", 5:37pm 0.45", 6:37pm 0.79". Radar indicated snow at 5:37pm but we were still receiving rain. However, during the 6:37pm observation, it was snowing so I exchanged the gauge catch with small inner gauge with a gauge catch without the funnel and small gauge. The initial gauge catch reading at 6:37 was 0.73". I brought that gauge inside and let the snow melt in the funnel. After melting the inner gauge catch reading was 0.79". This morning, the large gauge catch measured 0.49" plus the 0.79" calculating a storm total of 1.28". Checked the snowboard last night at 9:55pm after precipitation had ended and measure 0.4" of snow. Heaviest precipitation began just after 4:00pm. I did not obtain a SWE from the snowboard last night. Snow was heavy and wet. Snowpack on board is significantly reduced and is frozen to ice this morning. Yard has a trace of snowpack. Did not hear any thunder during the storm.
