 There is a layer of ice under the snow, but I was unable to measure its thickness. The gauge was frozen to the bracket and took some force to break it loose. The wind was so strong and constant yesterday and last night that any measurement of snow that I made is a guesstimate. The snow in the gauge included quite a bit of dirt, undoubtedly due to the wind, and that might have had a small effect on the melted neasurement.
