Notes
First thunder and sprinkle began at 4:18pm. Suddenly, at 4:22, the precipitation transitioned to very large raindrops and moderate rain mixing with graupel at 4:23pm. Wind was calm at this point. At 4:31pm, we briefly receive a very small amount of BB size hail with close cloud to ground lightning strike at 4:32. Hail ended about this time with precipitation reduced to a sprinkle at 4:35. Hail report issued this morning. Rain returned at 4:36 with thunder then to heavy rain at 4:40 with more thunder. Observed ponding of water in the yard at 4:43. Precipitation returned to light rain at 4:49 then rain at 4:52, then heavy rain at 4:54. Very close cloud to ground lightning strike at 4:55. Returned to rain then light rain at 4:57 back to a sprinkle at 5:10 ending at 5:11pm. Frequent thunder from cloud to cloud lightning from 5:12pm until 5:26pm. Precipitation returned as a sprinkle at 5:13, then to light rain at 5:15. Rainfall reduced to a sprinkle at 5:46 ending at 5:47pm. Distant thunder at 5:56 with sun coming out at this time with half a rainbow. Distant thunder from the SE at 6:03pm Checked gauge catch at 6:15pm showed 0.48" and our Davis Instrument weather station indicated 0.52". There was no flooding or heavy runoff. Checked Doppler radar after the storm passed and it revealed the thunderstorm developed right over us then moved generally to the SE becoming a Severe Thunderstorm.
