An anecdotal observation on the Saharan dust, which started in this area on 6/27 with its most substantial impact - very low visibility - and continued until this morning with continued moderate to heavy haze. I noticed that during this time, regular summer thunderstorms would build up at times but immediately die out and never leave heavy rain at this location. Is it possible that the drier dust layer inhibited thunderstorm growth as it does over the ocean to prevent the development of hurricanes?
