I have not seen it this dry since we've lived here at 8300 feet just north of Nederland. We have been here for 50 years.there are almost no wildflowers and the hummingbirds have been draining our feeders dry twice a day. We have two feeders each about 4 inches in diameter and 10 inches high. The hummingbirds would not survive this year if we did not have the feeders out as there are no nectar bearing wildflowers. The 20 head of cattle that are brought up every year on the land adjacent to ours to graze on the summer grasses have been moved back to a ranch on the plains where hay can be brought in. The small amount of grass we have up here in the mountains is also so dry as to have no nutritional value.
