What a difference one week makes! It has been sunny and breezy and the pervasive wetness has mostly dissipated. I watered the lawn once. The retention pond behind my yard has lost most of its water, and I no longer hear the amphibian chorus. No further firefly sightings this week. Copious dust flies up on the gravel road. Outdoor events in the community have gone on as planned. Corn and soybean fields are finally planted, two weeks later than historical average, with good germination. Standing water has evaporated except in the lowest low corners of some fields.
