We got 2.48 in. of rain this week. The Joe Pye Weed is at least a foot taller than last year. The spiderwort is a mass of blooms. The Lance Leafed Coreopsis is in bloom. So far the tomatoes and herbs are doing well, but we live on a slight slope and don’t have standing water. Area fields have standing water here and there. Cows and horses in pastures are sleek. A blue jay has become a regular visitor to our peanut feeder. We still see Downy, Hairy and Red-Bellied Woodpeckers regularly, too. On 6/13 a Redwing Blackbird came to the peanut feeder; that’s the first time we’ve seen one at any of our feeders. No hummingbirds at that feeder yet, and Baltimore Orioles have stopped coming to the orange half with grape jelly. Goldfinches and House Finches continue to come to the seed feeder and the peanut feeder.
