Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: WI-LN-2
Station Name: Merrill 7.0 W
Report Date: 10/5/2026
Submitted: 10/04/2026 9:12 PM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Color increased through the week. Maple, oak, poplar, basswood, and ash trees all had some green leaves mixed with some leaves in shades of yellow, orange, red, crimson, and brown. A few maple trees had no leaves left on their branches. The woods had areas of no leaves on the ground, areas of leaves covering the ground, and areas of leaves so thick no grass showed. Many areas under oak trees were close to covered with acorns, lots of them. Some must have been eaten or squirreled away as there were some acorn caps mixed in. More grasses dried out, among them swamp grasses and cattails. Corn and soybean plants dried down too. Some corn was ready for chopping but farmers still left some fields standing that were too wet. A few farmers put high moisture corn into silos. Some soybeans were quite dry, a person had a difficult time making a fingernail mark in the seeds. Usually the soybeans should be combined when no mark can be left in the seed. The bean seeds didn't rattle in the pods yet either. This would be close to average for timing. Most apples were done, the latest varieties were still on the trees but the wind on Saturday knocked some off of the branches. The creek was murky pools with many areas covered with leaves. Few varmints were seen but they still had lots of acres of standing corn to hide in. A few deer were seen grazing near dusk and after dark. The few turkeys seen were two different sizes, likely a late brood. Cranes were heard while foraging in fields standing and cut. Geese flew overhead some mornings and evenings. Brown goldenrod flowers were starting to turn fuzzy. Wildfire danger was moderate to high depending on the day and time of day. Mornings with fog kept the danger lower but evenings after wind during the day were much higher with stubble and dried leaves and grasses available for burning.
