General: I'm calling us near-normal on precipitation, based on our September, 2026 totals. We received 1.14" and expected 1.388" (SD = .92) (6 year average). It's a little low, but easily within one standard deviation. Weather is still warm, of course. We have had a couple of light frosts, but nothing significant yet.
Our water-year total is 16.89" (6 year average = 19.24", sd = 19.24") and our water year snow total is 45.9" (6 year average, 107.88", SD = 39.9").
Agriculture: Our neighbors are doing quite a bit of planting right now. Our guess is winter wheat, likely taking advantage of the changing nature of precipitation here.
Energy: Still high production/use ratio. We generated 67.33 kWHR yesterday and only used 12.09 kWHR, even with some pretty intense baking in an electric oven.
Fire: It feels like the risk is low, but it looked smoky off in the snake river valley yesterday as we went into town.
Plants/wildlife: Fall colors are starting to fade. We have some winter birds now. We have chipmunks, which we haven't had in quite a few years. We have a plethora of box elder bugs, which is a cyclic phenomenon.
water: Again, we seem to be approaching monthly normalcy, although I continue to be aware of the annual shortage. Every water year is a new water year (see above)!
