The weekly precipitation totaled 1.95 inches of rain. Now that we are entering into a transitional period (fall), the weather can vary quite a lot from day to day. Monday, September 28th was a very nice and comfortable air day with a dewpoint that did not exceed 54 (wind out of the NNE). Tuesday began at 58 degrees and then soared to 94 by the afternoon (calm wind). A return to humid air (dewpoint in the mid 70s) allowed the 94 degrees reached Thursday to feel like the lower 100s (though a South wind gusting over 30 at times helped to alleviate some of this heat). Friday was again humid with showers and thunderstorms in the area. One heavy thunderstorm downpour (though I don't recall any lightning during it) dropped all the reported weekly rain in about an hour and most of it in around 15 minutes. This downpour caused water to collect in our field bottoms. Yard and native areas are still firm and full of cracks, but vegetation is no longer stressed. The rain on Friday was hit or miss throughout the local area. Some areas received little to nothing while other areas saw over 2 inches of rain. As a whole, it is still very dry. Slower rains will be needed to recharge soil moisture adequately. The water year ended this past week with this station down 12.94 inches according to NOAA and down 14.39 inches according to PRISM. That's 76 or 74 percent of normal respectively for the water year here. That is a significant amount.
