0.71” rain late this week.  Creeks a trickle, ponds still low.  Dry conditions earlier made walking across the grass like walking on a coarse scrub brush.  Friday's rain soaked in fast; by Saturday afternoon we could hardly tell it had rained.  Saw one more bean field coming down, only one corn field still standing.  Lots of porch-sitting this week.  Odd – pears and apple tree put out a few blooms.  The weather must've tricked them.  Color on the maples advancing quickly, sumacs turning red. Nuts thumping down from the walnuts.  No deer or turkeys, but plenty of squirrels and pileated woodpeckers. A bald eagle visited a walnut tree in our front yard (photo attd).  A few hummingbirds still visiting.
