Last night's rain moved station back to mildly dry from moderately dry.  Otherwise, the second half of September featured only .03" of precip.  Fortunately, this is not a time of year when dry weather causes many problems.  Monthly precip. 1.27 " was 37% normal, YTD 28.17" = 118%. and water year ended at 109% of normal.  Conditions ideal for outdoor economic and recreational activities.  Tourism has fallen off a little in the past week.  Otherwise, economic activity normal.  I have not heard reports of fire as dew, shortening days and moderate winds keep danger low to moderate. Had a report of mass migration at high altitude of Broad-winged Hawk and one crashed in the garden. Migratory sparrow flocks lurking in the dense brush.  Hummers gone shortly after mid-month.  Down to one bat in the bat box.  Fall foliage nice, still 2-3 weeks from peak.  Garden plants dead or senescent although no frost yet.  Local creek and spring run as low as I have ever seen and clear.  Wide beaches on Lake Michigan compared to none 6years ago or so.
