We have had an exceptional week of moist conditions and are starting to dry out. With almost of 4 inches of rain 7 days ago the soil is still damp but not saturated, very close to normal. Temperatures have moderated with lows overnight reaching the mid 40s. This seems to be helping trees and some vines begin changing color. Vegetation and some perennial flowers have stopped producing buds. Birds have been very active in search of seeds and nuts. Some migration of species to winter grounds south of this location has been in play. We are seeing less hummingbirds, for example. Hawks and other predators have been very visible and active as well. Small mammals are busy climbing and searching for nuts. This has been in competition with blue jays and wood other nut loving birds which makes for an interesting display. Some bushed that are very sensitive to temperature and light changes have also started to change colors. Overall, fall is hear and in full swing.
