A line of thunderstorms developed to my northeast that looked promising to get a little rain on Tuesday, but it hopped over my location and redeveloped to the southwest of me.  Not even a drop did we get, only the mugginess!  Drainage ditches have been dry. Taking advantage of the 90°F temperatures and clear skies, I’ve returned to another solarization project in an area of the yard that is all weeds.  I mowed the weeds short and let the clippings dry up for a couple of days, then applied clear plastic over a 2,000 square foot area that was weighted down with 1” galvanized pipe all along the edges. The plastic was left on the area for about a week before moving it to the next location. Why not use herbicides?   I’ve got the time and patience to play with it and it doesn’t cost anything. By the end of this week we have accumulated 10 days of close calls, sounds of thunder, lower than usual humidity and higher than usual temperatures.  ElNino might have a hand in this weather but there ain’t much I can do about it!
