Very similiar conditions to this time last year, as rainfall since lte August has been minimal. Intermittent showers have not been significant enough to change soil or vegetatitive conditions. Lawns are brown, and have ceased growth. Even centipede grasses are starting to turn dormant. Leaf shed is normal, temperatures seem higher than last year, based on electric usage. Soil is very hard, dry and due to heat, evaporates rainfall quickly. I have avoided outside burns for second year in a row, trees are too stressed. Wildlife, especially deer, seem to have changed their feeding locations and patterns. Creeks and small ponds are drying, if not already dried out. Rainfall has been limited to sporadic localised storms of short duration, so conditions may vary across counties. Heat has definitely affected my outdoor work and hobbies, especially yardwork, and daytime outdoor activities. Tree leaves are turning as usual.
