3.87” in the preceding seven days, 3.86” of which came in about ten hours on Sunday – about two hours after I’d changed my CMR status from “mildly” to “moderately” dry! That total was the “lollipop” for Cape Cod, even edging out the venerable MA-BA-1 by .06”. Obviously, it would’ve been preferable if that amount hand come in the form of a two-day soaker, but we’ll take it – that event pushed September to 5.06” MTD against a PRISM average of 4.15”. So we’ve exceeded our “nut” for both September and the Water Year. In fact, we’re currently roughly 10% ahead of PRISM average for the entire water year, with more rain in the forecast. This is gratifying. As an old meteorologist buddy used to assure me, “Mother Nature loves her averages” and it would be nice to take a chunk out of the ‘24-’25 deficit. We’re in the heart of the lovely September weather that makes this the most pleasant month of the year – warm days, cool nights. Gradual color changes continue; fall flowers are blooming (including plenty of goldenrod – sniffle). Most garden plants except roots are announcing they’re done – time to start cleaning out. Pond level and wildlife activity are normal.
