On August 30th I pulled green onions.  The ground was hard and dry. They were hard to remove from the soil.  This morning I pulled more. They came out easily and did not have globs of mud on the roots. We are normally wet here'd at the end of August/beginning of September. It has rained a lot recently, but I would say it is a mildly wet normal.
