We had some rain in the middle of the week.  The corn and soybeans were too far to get much help from this rain.  The corn kerels were drying and denting.  Some was dry enough the be chopped and stored in bunker silos.  Some had stalks to wet and juicy for chopping and storage.  Soybeans dried out or moved toward ripening.  Some fields had green areas and some areas were yellow.  By the end of the week some fields had areas where the leaves had fallen off.  The beans were still wet and soft in the pods.  Lawns, hay fields and pastures still had dried out spots.  Many gardens were done for the season.  Few trees had colored leaves, still mostly green.  Many leaves were on the ground.  Early apple trees were done, mid season trees were close to done by the end of the week.  Late season wolf river apples continued to grow and bend the tree branches, some broke.  The concord grapes on our yard were ripe.  I plan on them being ripe about the middle of September, early this year by a little.  The creek remained mud, mostly dry but a few wet spots.  Water in bigger creeks, rivers, and ponds in this area was still low.  Few sandhill cranes were near my location, somewhere else must have feed better again.  Deer were seen mostly near dusk.  The bucks seen were still in velvet.  Some fawns had spots.  A young owl had been hanging around our buildings for a couple of weeks.  The screeches were during dark, nighttime.  It must have a good water source nearby.  Varmints had plenty of corn and soybeans to eat and hide in.  Tansy was almost done for the season with mostly brown flowers.  Goldenrod seems slow with some flower heads open but not all of them had opened yet.  Wildfire danger continued near the moderate range with dried leaves and grasses.
