While the week started with 0.83" of rain, only an additional 0.03" fell during the week. For the most part the week seemed pretty normal. It started raining within the last five minutes, in between today's daily report submittal and this report. This rain is from a cold front coming through. The southeast area of the state is hopeful that an inch or more will fall. The forecasters predict maybe a half inch here in the central part of the state. Every little bit helps.
Autumn is upon us. Shorter daylight hours, low dew points, daytime temps mostly in the 70s are all confirming that summer has passed. I noticed a few nearby swamp maples starting to pick up their orange and red colors. Leaves from the Norway maples have started dropping before changing colors, not uncommon. Several plants in the pollenator garden are going to seed now too. My feeble attempt to grow a few heirloom tomatoes paid off - I picked one yesterday. There are a few more coming from my pots while other gardeners are sharing their excess (sweet corn too). Delightful!
