A few days of rain (0.58" my house) followed by sun shiny temps in the 60s and low 70s have allowed for an end of season ripening bump to local wild berries (blue and red huckleberry) as well as red elderberry and Mountain ash. Hopefully a bit of nourishment for the soon-to-migrate birds. Bears have been feeding on spawning salmon and the two sets of 'this year' cubs in our area look to be in good  condition. Grasses, sedges and many summer 'bushes' are drying up,the few deciduous trees (mountain ash, vine maple, alder, birch are beginning to get some autumn leaf color). Fire danger back down to low, people with rainwater catchment relieved to have a growing supply before freeze up. A few deer spotted early morning browsing berry bushes. Still cruise ships full of 'visitors'(between 12-20,000) coming into town daily. Gardens still producing and most are leaving at least a few potatoes and carrots for pre-freeze harvest. Hunting season underway for ducks, deer...not sure what else is open. Subsistence and other personal use salmon and halibut fishing wrapping up.
