Corn has been harvested north of us around Greenview. Corn here is drying. Soybeans are sporting yellow leaves. Our alfalfa is 18-24" high but our farmer probably won't do 4th cutting. We received 0.47" of rain this week in three days with short sprinkles or light rains. Grass responded immediately. We had been heading into mildly dry conditions until these rains occurred. Will see what next week brings. Temperatures 80s and low 90s are much nicer. We have not had power outages this week.
Our overflow pond's mud is darker since the rains. Weeding isn't as easy as it was. We were beginning to have cracks show in exposed places. My sweet potatoes still are in bloom and lush but the potatoes are pushing up out of the ground. I haven't seen that happen before. Maybe I won't have to dig as deep. We still see the lone yearling buck daily. One day his mom and sister came to visit but didn't stay long. Saw a groundhog in the front alfalfa field. Our dog has killed several this year when they venture into his fenced yard. Dumb! Monarchs flit through our farm often heading west.
