Well, the rains were light for the 7 days past as only 0.26" was recorded locally.  And with the area waterways dropping to below their normal levels, mildly dry soil conditions appear to be warranted.  On the other hand, the Drought Monitor did remove this area from any drought category, going on a couple weeks now.  And with more rain predicted by our NWS, starting tomorrow, maybe mildly wet conditions will be met.  Anyhow, the trees and underbrush look lush and green and area lawns look about as green as possible.  Mowing is still too frequent but with the shorter days coming on, the grass should start growing more slowly.  Area crops are just beginning to finish with most bean fields turning yellow.  I did notice a sweet Autumn scent again this year, after mowing recently, but it was brief and minimal.  I think it's from sweet grass but whatever that scent is, for me, getting too much of that essence is highly unlikely.  Wildlife is starting to get more active as more roadkill is happening and sadly an oven bird flew into our window and was unable to recover.  And the squirrels are up to their usual habit of chewing up my pumpkins.  So I sprayed them with some diluted peppermint oil mixed with some soap products and so far, so good.  Otherwise maybe some mouse traps around those pumpkins will teach those sneaky squirrels a lesson.
