Aug.31 - Sept 8, 2026: Finally!! a change in weather patterns! Storms moving through the area each day since Sept. 1 with usually brief rain showers, usually in late evening and/or overnight. A total of 0.46 inches measured from Sept. 2 - 7 with 0.14" and 0.15" measured on Sept. 4 & 5th. Most showers did not get sidewalks and yard wet under large tree canopies. Rains during days and nights of the 3rd and 6th (measured the next AMs) were heavy enough to soak under even the largest trees and result in flow in the street gutters....also enough to flush months of dust/smoke/aphid dew from tree canopies to vehicles ! Days and nights are cooler.--- days in 50's and 60's and lows in upper 40s low 50s. Took the window air conditioner out on Sept. 7th.  No hot days (upper 90s) forecast for the next few weeks into September. Daisy flowers in the gardens are going by. Grapes are getting ripe. Grass in the yards is growing rapidly in the cooler, sunny days. Birds are busy at the feeders. Summer heat and drought in the mountains has dried up food resources for some wildlife, and bear, deer, elk, moose etc are already moving to lower elevations to find food. We have gone from endless days of dry, sizzling summer weather to cool, wetter fall weather in just a few days. Upper elevations are getting rain and occasionally snow. There is concern in areas burned by wildfires this year and recent years for flash flooding and debris flows if rains are intense enough.
