September started with nearly an inch and a half of rain which has restored flow levels in Bassett Brook and the Hoosic River to near normal. Lawns remain green with vigorous growth. The goldenrod in the old pasture and the blossoms in my raspberry patch are attracting lots of bees. Forests remain damp and I harvested a nice clump of maitake mushrooms from an oak stump last week. Garden soil retains good moisture but new growth has slowed with the cooler weather and shorter days and the harvest is winding down. My pond is still full. Hiking and biking trails on Mt Greylock are somewhat damp. Occasional trees are starting to change color. Lots of Barred Owls hooting.
