A tropical system developed just off the coast of Louisiana on Sunday that brought a few showers at the beginning of the work week. Some bands of showers from Hurricane Edouard caused ponding in low areas of the lawn on Tuesday. Almost an inch of welcomed rain fell by that afternoon. Runoff in drainage ditches was gone the next day, having been absorbed into the dry ground. There was still evidence of moisture in the upper soil level as scattered zinnia seeds sprouted without additional irrigation. Several traveling hummingbirds were visiting the sweet water stations, handling from tree limbs and roof drip edges.
