Again, what a difference a month makes! During July we had over 10" of rainfall, well over twice our long-term average amount. Ground was so wet that I wasn't able to get into the garden to do some late season planting. It looked like the yearlong drought might be over. But August arrived and the drought returned with new intensity. We had an inch and a half of rainfall for the full month, approximately 1/3 of the average. In the last three weeks we received .53" of rainfall and the searing heat is making a comeback as well. Summer plantings are withering in the heat and drought. Smaller streams have dried up. Weeds are about the only things still thriving.
