Distressing to see how many fellow weather reporters in US and Canada are experiencing economic and daily life hardships due to drought.  Hope you see relief with the change of seasons. This station has had direct hits by scattered thunderstorm during an August characterized by long dry stretches.  However, many nearby areas should be classified as mildly dry.

Gardens and crops in Ag areas looking good.  Potatoes, determinate tomatoes, peas etc. dying or senescent.  Homebuilding, road work active.  Logging- many sales no bid or low bid, declining activity due to economic conditions and packaging technology increasing efficiency.  Not weather related.  Heavy tourist traffic.

Overnight open windows and curtain management keep house comfortable.  Low cooling energy demand during past 2 weeks.

Some Div. of forestry personnel on loan to other states.  Some fire risk remains for fall season here.

No reports of bear issues.  Natural food must be adequate.  Seeing the occasional dug out bee's nest.  Nighthawks only bird migration I have noticed.  Bumblebees common in garden, and pollinator plantings.  Many grasshoppers. Bracken fern dying back a little.  Black cherry trees losing leaves quickly.  Otherwise, forests green.
