on the cusp once again of mildly dry, 0.54 inches of rain during the past seven days, 3.35 inches so far this month, ground  drier than a week ago, local streams down a bit, hummingbirds very active probably tanking up for the trip south, edges of some neighborhood lawns showing brown spots, banner sunflower and hibiscus summer, good yields from local vegetable gardens.
