The overall hot and dry weather continues with only 0.01 inch of rain this week. The dewpoint has been mostly below normal for all of August. The temperature has been above normal each day since July 23. The soil is dry with blowing dust occuring during thunderstorm outflow wind. The above normal heat is causing high evaporation, dryness, and high energy use. Field flowers are few. Tomatoes are not doing well in this heat. There are no crickets or moths. The Sandia Mountains are dry and dusty with little plant and grass growth, and there is a forest fire in the Manzano mountains. Water flow in the Rio Grande River in Albuquerque is zero. Our water supply is adequate but with mandatory watering restrictions in place.
