I have noticed that during this lack of rainfall, some plants are experiencing a lull in flower production, especially on lantana and hibiscus plants.  My efforts to irrigate seem lacking as far as continuous flower production. But I’m only trying to keep the plants alive until the next rain, not necessarily make them thrive. This area’s borrow pits, or small ponds in neighboring yards, have lost at least one foot of water through evaporation and lack of rain. But Mother Nature had other ideas and began to provide daily rain events to help towards ending the mini drought we’ve been experiencing.  The forecast is for a 30-40% chance of rain every day next week!  We have a few migrating hummers in the area this week enjoying the fresh sugar water that is waiting for them.
