We have received no rain this past week. Our overflow pond has a drying mud appearance. Each morning has had dew in the grass and several times heavy condensation on rain gauge and cars. Our farmer cut and baled the third cutting of alfalfa. He only had six big bales on the front and back fields. The third cutting is usually less than previous ones. My garden continues with tomatoes and peppers. The sweet potato vines would like to take over the garden but I move them back to their own area. Soybeans are still dark green and hedge-like. Corn ears have darkening silks. We are still working to keep up on weekly moving of yard and pastures. Rabbits have little ones of which our dog has killed two or three. We don't see deer very often and when we do the doe has a single older fawn with her.  I think she has separated from the male fawn.  We see a lone deer more often. A skunk has been busy digging for grubs in the yard and orchard.  I notice that the cone-shaped digging show dark, loamy soil so we still have moisture down there. I have seen/heard two small flocks of Canada geese (7 in one, 10-12 in the other) flying SE in the morning. On Wed. 8/26 11:19am we received an emergency peak time event email from Ameren asking us to reduce our energy use from 3-7pm that day. They said there was to be an unexpected high demand on the grid during that time.  We complied.  This week has given us some lovely early fall days without such high humidity and temperatures.
