The past week has had seasonal monsoon thunderstorm activity that has kept surface conditions as a mix of dry to somewhat moist. Station precip total is only about 2.2" over the past three months and around an inch so far in August. Severe drought continues medium to longer term over the entire region with current rating considering more recent conditions as well. Current fire danger ranges from very high in portions of the local area to more moderate in other places where recent rain has fallen. There has been some die off of native vegetation in the past couple months including some tree kill at higher elevations from heat and drought.
