But with no measurable rain in 30 days, no significant rain in almost 40 days, and continued triple digit heat and constant sunshine, flash drought conditions are starting to develop. Burn bans are back, fire danger has increased and there have been quite a few smaller grass / brush fires around the area lately although none major. Our grass is browned, cooked and crispy and hasn't needed mowing in a month. Big Sandy Creek still has flowing water but has been dropping. With such a wet April- July, aquifers and lake levels remain in good shape; but the surface is needing rain. Though not unusual for August in central Texas, I'm calling conditions "mildly dry" for the first time since March.
