With 1.07 inches of rain this week, my station has accumulated 6.64 inches of rain for August, 3.8 inches (234%) above the NOAA 39-year norm. Grass is green and lush, and raised beds and planters are doing well without my need to water. Dew points have been dropping, but the recent humid air helped the millions of airborne powdery mildew spores to get a foothold on the zinnias and red twig dogwood. Migrating Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds are nectaring on the zinnias, and an oriole stopped by the yard on the way south.
