Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: MA-WR-112
Station Name: Shrewsbury 0.4 S
Report Date: 8/23/2026
Submitted: 8/23/2026 9:35 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
This past week was a little cooler than many late summer averages. Overcast days kept temps down and brought at least small amounts of precip (two "trace" days and two days of rain totalling 0.20"). These conditions help to lower drought conditions even in areas of the state with dryer conditions than central Mass.
Everything else is pretty"normal" with one exception - I spotted an invasive insect that has been under the watchful eyes of state officials - the spotted lantern fly. It was only one, but I'm sure there are others not very far away. I submitted a report of the siting on the state's DCR website and will monitor for more. This town is already under quarantine for another invasive insect - the Asian longhorn beetle. Not a good thing...
Farmer's markets are still bringing in fresh veggies. Meals made of produce picked only hours before are something to look forward to. Labor Day is not far off now, daylight hours are getting fewer. Yet there are many more summer days to enjoy.
