Rare for this summer, I'm going to go with Near Normal for this past week. There has been about one-third of an inch of rain which is a little low but the ground looks moist (as in, not dry). Basement has been drier and potted plants have needed water. Nothing, however, is dire or without moisture.
Garden is still producing tomatoes and zucchini. Corn has had a burst that caused road-side stands to lower their price per dozen from $7 to $6 (yay!).
The latest of the daylilies is starting to fade. Phlox have had a VERY good year but are probably just coming over their peak. Apples and crabapples falling from trees just the same as apple leaves. Chestnuts are growing in size.
Hummingbirds are still quite active. Bees are starting to do their autumn confusion work-- half of the time, they don't appear to know where they are going. Mosquitos have been very bad.
Allergies have been lower.
Nighttime temps have been dipping lower and it feels as though the sweetest of the summer days now slips behind us. Thoughts turn to autumn and winter as, just like the ant in Aesop's fable, we begin to put away harvest for the winter.
