Description:
We had five rain days this week equaling 1.43". Although there were briefly puddles of standing water in the overflow pond on 8/16, it soaked in within a couple hours. Brief off-on power outage that day. No sogginess in low areas. That is not unusual for late August here. Soil remains nice and crumbly when I weed. Temperatures at 7am are mostly in the high 60s low 70s. We had one day of heavy fog (8/20). Mushrooms are popping up again in the yard and field. Swams of barn swallows, chimney swifts, dragonflies, and sometimes bats circle the alfalfa field in early evenings feeding on something. Goldfinches, hummingbirds and numerous butterflies, wasps and bumblebees are visiting the wild flowers. Grass continues to grow fast. Neighboring corn and beans are lush. Garden is producing plenty of tomatoes and peppers. No chipmunks but an over abundance of squirrels. Only one deer noted this week in the early evening. Less humid this week overall.
