Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: KS-ST-19
Station Name: Johnson City 14.9 NE
Report Date: 8/22/2026
Submitted: 8/22/2026 3:40 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Far drier than the drought monitor depicts. Missed several big rains. Coupled with highs consistently around 100ºF and lows in the mid-70s, evaporation exceeds nearly all the accumulated precip since July 1. Highest Precip event so far was early January with a wet snow eqv. to 1.25", followed by a few .80" rains in May. Just shy of 8" since May 1 and 9.5" for the year. Evaporation has far exceeded rain total.

Buffalograss has been dormant since late June, mainly due to lack of moisture, but the intense heat has exacerbated its dormancy despite occasional precip. Early planted dryland corn may yield a few ears and milo in terrace bottoms, or along the ditch headed out; however, nearly all late-planted corn and milo burnt up a month ago. Hoping El Nino can break the current pattern before the winds of winter arrive.
