Temps were hot - five days at or above 100 degrees F, the other two days were 99 and 97 degrees, morning lows in the 70s. Obviously Heat Index above 100 degrees every day. Two days with Air Quality Alert, but zero days of Heat Advisory (don’t understand). I upgraded to Moderately Dry - beginning stages. Prairie restoration plants (don’t get watered) are really showing signs of stress - many are turning dry and brown. Pecan tree also has browning leaves. Soil is dry with large cracks. The little bit of rain we got didn’t even make the soil damp. Supplemental watering of container plants twice last week and one day of watering plant beds and trees. Neighbor’s pond level is down but still holding plenty of water. I’m having to limit my gardening time due to the heat even though I start early in the morning - I’m just doing the bare minimum and unable to keep up with maintenance. Story for the week - hot and dry conditions persist - conditions forecast to remain unchanged for the rest of the month. I feel drought status and fire ban status will change very soon.
