I received 3.39 inches of rain this week; most of the rain occurred during a thunderstorm overnight and early morning August 5. The soil is moist from heavy rainfall and cooler (below normal) temperatures this week. The soil is dry at the surface but moist at a depth of 1 inch and to a depth of 6 inches. The trees and grass are turning green again and recovering from stress. Conditions are near normal. Precipitation for August is 3.39 inches, 2.24 inch above normal (295 percent of normal). Precipitation here for the year is now 22.90 inches, which is 1.46 inch above normal (107 percent of normal). Precipitation for the water year is 0.04 inches below normal (100 percent of normal). Plants and wildlife. Bird visits to the bird bath are slightly less last week. Approximately 20 species of birds (about 100 birds visit each day). Most plants have not been wilting during the day.  Water Supply Water level in Standing Bear Lake (approximately 0.2 mile to the east of here) is slightly above normal. Area creeks and ponds are also above normal. Nearby corn and soybean fields look good and are growing well.
