Since last reported on 08/03/2026, we have not recorded any measurable precipitation. Heavy thunderstorm last weekend just missed us to the east. Meadowlake Airport about 2 miles east of us is a good indicator as they have native green grass that has gone to seed. Topsoil sample taken this afternoon indicates dry, dusty soil down to the 4.0" level with no visible moisture. Nearly the entire past week has been smokey, hazy and hot. 

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map dated 08/04/2026 indicates we are in D3 Extreme Drought. Haven't seen the birds much especially in the afternoon during the hottest time of day. Did observe two Owls hooting at each other from different rooftops a couple of evenings ago. We now have 3 or 4 Hummingbirds working in our perennial beds. I continue to water our young trees during the appropriate water days.

Colorado Springs Fire Department quickly responded to a small fire in the south side of town today west of the Evergreen Cemetery. The fire was under control rapidly.

With no measurable precipitation this past week and past conditions teetering on Severely Dry conditions, I am revising the Condition Scale from Moderately Dry to Severely Dry.
