The dog days of August have arrived - hazy, hot and humid. A Bermuda high brought the high temps and humidity, bringing another heat wave for several communities around Boston. Today's forecast is that Boston will reach the 90s today as well, a little less common as the weather conditions are measured at Logan airport, sitting in the harbor with water on three sides. These conditions brought a few evening thunderstorms and 0.88" of rain. Many locations received more depending on where the clouds passed through. These systems brought rainbows too. 
The rain has helped reduce the drought conditions. Plants are responding, flowers are everywhere and farmers markets are full of a variety of fresh vegetables. 
The pollenator garden is still full of action, at least a dozen different types of bees are regulars there (I have been trying to identify them - unofficially without microscopes and all). There are a variety of wasps, dragon flies, several butterflies, including the sixth Monarch I have seen in the past few weeks. It's amazing how much goes on in a little area of only about 200 square feet. Finally, the nighttime bugs are back too. It seems very late in the season to hear crickets and other sounds, but at least it's not silent for the entire summer.
